Dipak Chandrakant Sargar, a para table tennis player from Sangli, Maharashtra, has turned his life around despite battling Progressive Muscular Dystrophy, a debilitating neurological condition. The 2025 Khelo India Para Games participant is not only a testament to resilience but also an inspiration for others facing similar struggles.

At just six years old, Dipak began facing mobility challenges due to his illness. As the disease progressed, he found himself confined to a wheelchair by the age of 20. Despite the physical limitations, Dipak chose sports as a way to live life to the fullest. He now competes in the C1 category of para table tennis, training under Gautam Kulkarni and Harish Pujari.

Dipak, who holds a Master’s degree in social work, was initially advised to practice yoga to maintain mental well-being. However, it was table tennis that truly transformed his life. He started playing the sport a year ago, and his progress has been remarkable. He participated in ranking tournaments in Indore and nationals in Vadodara, performing well enough to secure a spot in the Khelo India Para Games.

Running an internet cafe in his village with his brother, Dipak continues to embrace life with courage. Despite knowing that his body will gradually cease functioning, he remains hopeful and determined. "I just want to live and enjoy every moment," Dipak says, grateful for the support that has made his journey possible.

Dipak's story exemplifies how sports can empower individuals to overcome the greatest of challenges.
