Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson on Thursday has been fined ₹24 lakh after his team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

This was the Royals’ second slow over-rate offence of the season, prompting a stiffer penalty under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. As per the rules, other members of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees—whichever amount was lower.

The match itself was a one-sided affair, with Gujarat Titans securing a dominant 58-run win. The Titans posted a massive 217-run total, and in reply, Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs.

This defeat dropped Rajasthan Royals to seventh place in the points table, with just two wins from five matches. In contrast, Gujarat Titans sit comfortably at the top, winning four of their five games.

The IPL continues to crack down on slow over-rates, a recurring issue that affects match timing. Samson’s fine is a reminder for teams to stay within the stipulated time or face steep financial penalties. With the tournament heating up, every over—and minute—counts.
