Ronaldo confirms absence from club world cup
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has announced he will not participate in this month’s FIFA Club World Cup, having declined offers from teams involved in the tournament. The 40-year-old forward, whose contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nasser expires at the end of June, confirmed his decision ahead of Portugal’s Nations League final against Spain.
Despite speculation surrounding his future following Al-Nasser's failure to qualify for the Club World Cup, Ronaldo stated firmly, “I will not be at the Club World Cup.” He revealed that several clubs approached him, with some offers being reasonable and others not, but added, “you can’t try and do everything. You can’t catch every ball.”
Ronaldo’s social media message after Al-Nassr’s final league game in May, saying “the chapter is over,” fueled rumors of a possible transfer. However, sources close to the club remain confident that an extension of his contract will be agreed upon.
Since joining Al-Nasser in 2023 following the end of his contract with Manchester United, Ronaldo has impressed with 99 goals in 111 appearances, including an impressive 35 goals in 41 matches last season.
