Australia batter Kurtis Patterson has signed a three-match deal with Surrey for the ongoing County Championship season. Patterson, who represented Australia in Test cricket against Sri Lanka in 2019, joins Surrey following an impressive Sheffield Shield season with New South Wales, in which he scored 743 runs at an average of 57.15. His strong performance earned him recognition and led to this exciting opportunity.

Under his contract, Patterson will feature in three County Championship matches. He is set to play against Warwickshire from May 16 to 19, and will also appear in home games against Yorkshire and Essex. “I have always wanted to play county cricket, and I am excited to join Surrey,” Patterson said in a club statement. “I look forward to the challenge at the Kia Oval and the support from the passionate fans.”

Surrey welcomed Patterson at a time when several key England players, including Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith, and Gus Atkinson, will be absent due to national team duties ahead of a Test against Zimbabwe starting May 22. Alec Stewart, Surrey’s High-Performance Advisor, stated that Patterson’s arrival will add quality and depth to the batting lineup during this period.

Several other Australian cricketers are also participating in the Championship. Patterson’s signing is expected to strengthen Surrey’s campaign as they aim for a strong finish this season.

Surrey’s acquisition of Patterson underscores their commitment to bolstering team performance in the absence of international stars.
