India’s top cueist, Pankaj Advani, claimed the silver medal after a thrilling final at the WBL World Matchplay Billiards Championship. The closely fought match took place in Carlow, Ireland, where Advani was narrowly defeated by Britain’s David Causier.

The final was a best-of-15 format and witnessed several lead changes. Advani started strong with a 2-0 lead but couldn’t hold off the British cueist, who fought back fiercely. The match went down to the decider, where Causier clinched the title with an 8-7 win. The final scores included tight frames such as 100-47, 100-52, and a close 100-85, reflecting the intense competition between the two skilled players.

Despite the loss, this silver adds to Advani’s long list of international achievements. He remains India’s most decorated cue sports champion and is widely admired for his skill and sportsmanship.

Advani won’t have much time to rest. Starting today (Sunday), he will compete in the IBSF World Billiards Championship. This upcoming tournament will follow the timed format, different from the matchplay style, and is expected to produce high-scoring breaks from top global players.

Advani has been the reigning IBSF world champion since 2016 and hopes to continue his winning streak. All eyes will be on him as he defends his title once again.
