Pakistan, Bangladesh exit Champions Trophy winless

Pakistan and Bangladesh ended their Champions Trophy 2025 campaigns without a win after their final Group A match was abandoned due to rain at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Both teams shared a point each but were already eliminated as India and New Zealand advanced to the semi-finals.

Continuous drizzle in Rawalpindi for the past 24 hours had already raised fears of a washout. On-field umpires Adrian Holdstock and Michael Gough scheduled an inspection at 2:30 PM (IST), but persistent rain prevented any play. At 4:00 PM (IST), the match was officially called off without a ball being bowled.

This was the second rain-affected game of the tournament, following the South Africa-Australia washout in Group B.

Pakistan and Bangladesh had hoped to end their campaigns on a high but struggled throughout the tournament, suffering defeats to New Zealand and India. While Bangladesh’s bowling unit showed some promise, both teams failed to deliver consistent performances.

Pakistan’s early exit marks their third consecutive ICC tournament disappointment after failing to progress past the group stage in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The final Group A match between India and New Zealand, set to determine the group winner, will take place at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
