After breaking the 90m barrier in Doha, Neeraj Chopra is aiming for an even longer throw at the ORLEN Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet in Chorzow, Poland, this Friday (today). Chopra’s throw of 90.23m in Doha earned him second place, as German Julian Weber outthrew him with a 91.06m effort. It was Weber’s first-ever 90m throw.
Weber, a European champion, will compete alongside two-time world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada and Poland's Marcin Krukowski, who holds the national record. The field also includes top athletes from Ukraine, Moldova, and Poland.
Chopra, who has long aimed for the 90m mark, is confident of more impressive throws this season. He’s feeling better after overcoming past groin issues and working with legendary coach Jan Zelezny. The World Championships in Tokyo in September will be Chopra’s biggest goal this year.
The Poland event is Chopra's third of the season after victories in South Africa and Doha. He’ll also compete in the Golden Spike in June.
