Napoli wins Serie A title by one point
Rome
Napoli won its fourth Serie A title after beating Cagliari 2-0 at home in the final match, finishing just one point ahead of Inter Milan. Before the last round, Napoli led with 79 points, while Inter had 78.
Cagliari, safe from relegation, had little at stake. Napoli scored just before halftime when Matteo Politano crossed, and Scott McTominay scored a stunning scissor kick. Romelu Lukaku added a second goal six minutes into the second half with a strong solo run.
This is Napoli’s second title in three years, ending a 33-year wait in the 2022-2023 season. Coach Antonio Conte made history by winning Serie A with three clubs: Juventus, Inter, and now Napoli.
Inter won 2-0 against Como but finished second with 78 points. Veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina ended his career with a red card in the match. Inter now focuses on the Champions League final on May 31.
