Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti reached his second Grand Slam quarterfinal by defeating Holger Rune in a thrilling French Open match on Sunday night. Musetti earned his first top-10 win at a major with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory after three hours and 18 minutes of intense play. Despite Rune’s aggressive strategy, Musetti remained strong and took full control in the final two sets.

He now sets his sights on equaling his best Slam result—last year’s Wimbledon semifinal—by facing American Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. Tiafoe is in top form, having reached his first-ever French Open quarterfinal without dropping a set. He beat unseeded German Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4).

Tiafoe also became the first American to reach the French Open quarterfinals without losing a set since Andre Agassi in 1995. With Tommy Paul also qualifying for the last eight, this marks the first time since 1996 that two American men have reached the French Open quarterfinals.

Carlos Alcaraz also made headlines, securing his 100th tour-level win by defeating Ben Shelton 7-6(8), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The match was full of excitement and high-level tennis. Alcaraz kept his cool despite moments of frustration and now advances to face Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals.

If Alcaraz wins the French Open this year, he will become only the third player in this century to defend the title in Paris, joining Rafael Nadal and Gustavo Kuerten. The men’s singles competition is heating up with many top names battling for glory.
