Markram shines in WTC final, wins award

South Africa’s Aiden Markram has won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for June 2025, following his match-winning performance in the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia at Lord’s.

The 30-year-old scored a brilliant 136 runs and took two key wickets, helping South Africa win their first senior ICC title in 27 years. Markram played a key role in breaking a strong partnership by dismissing Steve Smith early, then bowled out Josh Hazlewood to end Australia’s innings.

Although he was out for a duck in the first innings, Markram made a strong comeback. Chasing 282 runs, he led the team with a calm and steady 136, forming vital partnerships with Wiaan Mulder and captain Temba Bavuma.

When Bavuma was nearly forced to retire hurt, Markram encouraged him to stay and fight. Their teamwork helped guide South Africa to a historic win.

Markram said he was proud to contribute to the win, calling the final "a moment we’ll remember forever."
