Manchester United sign Mbeumo in big deal
London
Manchester United have signed forward Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford on a five-year deal worth £65 million. The deal, which includes an option to extend until 2031, makes Mbeumo United’s third summer signing after Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
The 25-year-old Cameroon international was thrilled to join the club. “This is my dream club. I wore their shirt growing up,” Mbeumo said. He’s expected to replace Marcus Rashford, who may be heading to FC Barcelona on loan.
Mbeumo impressed with 20 goals and 8 assists in the Premier League last season, finishing fourth in the league’s scoring charts. Overall, he has scored 70 goals and provided 51 assists in 242 games for Brentford.
Manchester United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, praised Mbeumo’s “remarkable consistency,” saying he’s been one of the Premier League’s top performers in recent years.
Mbeumo will join United’s pre-season tour in the United States starting Thursday. He hopes to grow under new manager Ruben Amorim and help the club compete for major trophies this season.
