Maaya Wins first singles title in a year
New Delhi
India's Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi secured her first singles title in a year, triumphing in the girls' singles final at the ITF J300 event. The 15-year-old rallied to defeat Ekaterina Tupitsyna 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 in an intense contest at the DLTA Complex on Saturday.
Tupitsyna started strong, putting Maaya on the backfoot. However, the Indian showed remarkable resilience, staging a comeback to win the second set and forcing a decider. As Tupitsyna seemed to tire, Maaya took control of the match, clinching the title with a dominant third set.
Maaya's last title win came in Pune in December 2023. Since then, her best performance had been a semifinal appearance in Durban in September, but she struggled during the first half of the season. After the match, Maaya reflected on her performance, admitting she wasn't at her best but managed to push through. "I had to focus and take risks to win," she said.
In the boys' final, Donghyon Hwang dominated the match, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Roshan Santhosh, who struggled to find his form.
