Knight supports Charlie Dean’s return versus India
Bristol
After England’s second straight loss to India in the T20I series, former captain Heather Knight has urged big changes to the team. She strongly supported including bowling all-rounder Charlie Dean for the remaining matches. England lost the second T20I by 24 runs at Bristol on Tuesday, falling 2-0 behind in the five-match series. If they lose again, it would be their first home T20I series defeat since 2023.
Knight believes Dean is one of England’s best bowlers and can make a big difference against India’s strong batting line-up. She especially highlighted Dean’s good record against Smriti Mandhana during the Powerplay overs. "Charlie Dean is one of your best five bowlers and she needs to play. She should have started the series as she is an exceptional player," Knight told Sky Sports.
Knight, currently recovering from a hamstring injury, suggested that Linsey Smith might be dropped to make space for Dean. Smith has not performed well in this series, despite doing well against the West Indies earlier. Knight pointed out that Smith has struggled with accuracy and changing pace, making her less effective against India.
Apart from team changes, Knight also encouraged England players to stay positive and not lose hope after two losses. "It is important they don’t go into their shells. Spirits must stay high. You can’t feel sorry for yourself. We are still in this series and there’s room to improve," Knight said.
England will need strong performances to stay alive in the series and avoid a historic home defeat.
