Kalidas wins men's full marathon at Vasai-Virar Marathon

Satara's Kalidas Hirave won the men's full marathon at the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Marathon on Sunday, narrowly missing the course record by just five seconds. Hirave completed the race in 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 19 seconds, with Pradeep Singh Chaudhary finishing second, just five seconds behind. Two-time winner Mohit Rathore, who holds the course record, secured third place with a time of 2:19:06. In the men’s half-marathon, Navy's Rohit Verma triumphed with a narrow victory over Nitesh Rathva, finishing just one second ahead. Both runners surpassed the previous course record of 1:04:37. Kolhapur's Deepak Kumbhar, who led until the 17km mark, finished third despite suffering from calf pain. In the women’s half-marathon, Sonika, a farmer’s daughter from Haryana and a Railway employee, broke the course record with a time of 1:13:12. She finished ahead of Bharti (1:13:51) and Sakshi Jadyal (1:14:21), setting a new benchmark for the event. The race was flagged off by Olympic wrestler Sakshi Malik.
