Injury forces Alcaraz out Of Madrid Open
Madrid
Carlos Alcaraz, two-time Madrid Open champion, has pulled out of the 2025 tournament due to injury. The 21-year-old Spaniard cited pain in his adductor and a separate foot issue as reasons for his withdrawal.
Speaking at a press conference, Alcaraz said, “We decided not to take risks. It’s better to rest now than worsen the situation. I’ll recover and return soon.”
He injured his upper right leg during the Barcelona final against Holger Rune last week. Despite hopes of recovery, Alcaraz admitted the Madrid Open came too soon for a full return.
“It’s disappointing. I love playing in Madrid—my people, my family, my friends are here. But tennis is demanding, and these decisions are necessary,” he said.
Alcaraz, currently topping the ATP Live Race To Turin, has a 24-5 record this season, with titles in Monte-Carlo and Rotterdam. He missed the Rome tournament last year and is now targeting it as his next goal.
“My plan is to go to Rome. I’ll test myself next week to see if I’m fit. If not, I’ll focus on Roland Garros,” he added.
Alcaraz’s absence is a blow to the Madrid Open, where fans were eager to see him play. However, his focus remains on a full recovery and returning stronger.
