The Surfing Federation of India (SFI) has confirmed that the 6th Indian Open of Surfing (IOS) will be held from May 30 to June 1. This national competition will take place at Sasihithlu Beach in Mangaluru, Karnataka. It is the second stop in the National Surfing Championship series.

The IOS is recognised by the International Surfing Association. It is hosted by the Mantra Surf Club and organised by the Surfing Swami Foundation. Surfers from across India will compete in four categories: Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Groms (Under-16) Boys, and Groms (Under-16) Girls.

This event follows the International Surfing Festival held in Varkala in April. Points earned here will impact rankings and qualification for the Asian Surf Championship, which serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Asian Games.

Last year, India earned its first-ever surfing spots for the Asian Games at the Asian Surf Championship in the Maldives. SFI President Arun Vasu said this marked a turning point for Indian surfing. He expects strong competition as the road to Aichi-Nagoya 2026 continues.

Top Indian surfers like Kishore Kumar, Kamali P, Harish Muthu, and Ajeesh Ali will participate. These athletes helped India earn fifth place in Asia last year.

Before the IOS begins, the Surfing Swami Foundation will hold a Grom Search at Panambur Beach. This program aims to train young surfers from coastal Karnataka, offering them future opportunities in surfing and beyond.
