Shanghai
The Indian men's and women's compound archery teams reached the finals of the World Cup Stage 2 on Wednesday, securing at least two medals from the prestigious competition.
In the men’s event, the top-ranked team of Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Rishabh Yadav defeated Great Britain 239-232 in the quarterfinals. They then narrowly won against Denmark 232-231 in the semifinals. The team initially struggled, losing the first series 59-60, but they came back strong with consistent performances in the following rounds, ultimately winning by seven points.
Meanwhile, the Indian women’s team, made up of Madhura Dhamangaonkar, Chikitha Taniparthi, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, overcame Kazakhstan 232-229 in their quarterfinal match. In the semifinal, they won against Great Britain 232-230, securing their spot in the finals against Mexico.
Both men’s and women’s finals will take place on Saturday. This marks a significant achievement for Indian archery, as the teams aim for gold in both categories. Last month, India’s compound mixed team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav won a gold medal at World Cup Stage 1.
The impressive performances of the Indian teams have excited fans and ensured the country will return with at least two medals.
