India wins 9 medals at Special Olympics

Indian athletes continued their strong performance at the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025, securing five more medals on the second day. With two gold, two silver, and one bronze added, India's total tally now stands at nine, according to Special Olympics Bharat.
Snowboarding contributed two more medals after a successful opening day. Bharti (division F25) clinched her second gold in the Novice Slalom Final, while Harshita Thakur (division F26) won bronze in the same event. Harshita had earlier won a silver on the first day.
In Alpine Skiing, India bagged three more medals. Nirmala Devi (division F06) claimed gold in the Intermediate Giant Slalom Final, while Radha Devi (division F01) earned silver. Abhishek Kumar (division M02) secured another silver in the Novice Giant Slalom Final.
India’s head snowboarding coach, Anoop Kumar Sharma, praised the athletes. “We are proud of their incredible start. Securing nine medals, with six in snowboarding, shows their hard work. The team is determined to set new records,” he said.
The Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 features over 1,500 athletes from 102 nations competing in eight disciplines. India is participating in six: Snowboarding, Snowshoeing, Alpine Skiing, Speed Skating, Floorball, and Cross-Country Skiing.
