India U-23 squad named for Tajikistan friendlies

India U-23 head coach Naushad Moosa has announced a 29-player probable squad for friendlies against Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in Dushanbe next month. The matches will be held on June 18 and 21, as part of India’s build-up for the AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

The squad will begin training in Kolkata from June 1, with the final team departing for Tajikistan on June 16. The initiative is part of the All India Football Federation’s long-term development plan to transition young talent to the senior team.

Moosa, appointed on May 20, emphasized the importance of these matches. “They will help test our strategies and build team unity ahead of major tournaments,” he said.

The AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers draw will be held on May 29 in Malaysia. The AIFF has also planned regular exposure trips during FIFA windows to prepare the team thoroughly.

Moosa will be supported by assistant coach Remus Gomes, goalkeeping coach Dipankar Choudhary, and strength coach Diwakar Manohar.
