India tops medal tally at Seychelles Boxing event
Mahe
India’s young boxing talent delivered a stellar performance at the Seychelles National Day Boxing Tournament, returning home with a total of seven medals and topping the medal table. The event was held at the Paradise Arena in Mahe.
The Indian team, made up of recent medalists from national competitions, secured three gold, three silver, and one bronze medal—finishing ahead of Mauritius by one gold.
In the finals, Himanshu Sharma (50kg) won gold via walkover, Ashish Mudshaniya (55kg) earned a 4:1 split decision, and Gaurav Chauhan (90+kg) battled hard for a narrow 3:2 win. Anmol (60kg), Aditya Yadav (65kg), and Neeraj (75kg) each put up a strong fight but settled for silver after close 2:3 split decision losses. Kartik Dalal (70kg) took home the bronze.
This success is part of India’s effort to expand international exposure for its rising boxing talent. Under the guidance of Boxing Federation of India President Ajay Singh, the focus has shifted to providing global experience not just for top athletes but also for upcoming contenders.
Earlier this month, Indian boxers won eight medals—including two golds—at the Thailand Open. Deepak won the 75kg final against Uzbekistan’s Abdurakhimov Javokhir, while Naman Tanwar defeated China’s Han Xuezhen in the 90kg final.
In April, India also bagged six medals at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil.
The string of strong performances highlights the country’s growing strength and depth in boxing across multiple weight categories.
