India ready to host 2036 Olympics: Delhi CM
New Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta declared that India is fully ready to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Speaking at the Olympic Day Run at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Gupta said the nation, including the capital, is prepared to welcome the world with dedication and pride if chosen by the global Olympic community.
The event was attended by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha. Thousands of Delhi residents joined the run, celebrating Olympic Day under the International Olympic Committee’s ‘Let’s Move’ campaign, which promotes fitness and unity.
CM Gupta praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for driving progress in sports infrastructure across the country. She said the Olympic Run has sparked great joy and energy in the city, showing India's strong passion for sports.
Mandaviya also led the “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” campaign at the event, which encourages healthy living and environmental awareness. Last month, the cycling campaign drew 750 participants, including teachers, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts.
Top sports personalities like Olympic silver medallist Ravi Dahiya, gold medallist Deepak Punia, record-holding Rohtash Chaudhary, and mountaineer Narender Kumar also joined the cycling rally. Kumar recently climbed Mount Annapurna in just 12 days.
This edition of the cycling event, themed "Cycling with Teachers," aimed to involve educators as fitness role models. Mandaviya urged teachers to use bicycles and inspire students to follow suit, calling them "heroes of Viksit Bharat" who can lead the way to a healthier, stronger India.
