The Indian junior women’s hockey team lost to Chile 1-3 in a shootout after both teams finished 2-2 in regulation time during the Four Nations Tournament on Friday. This was their fourth match of the friendly tournament.

Chile struck first in the second quarter when Jacinta Solari converted a penalty corner in the 27th minute. India equalised early in the third quarter through Sukhveer Kaur, who also scored from a penalty corner in the 35th minute.

Chile regained the lead when their captain Laura Muller scored a field goal in the 42nd minute. India fought back, and Kanika Siwach scored the equaliser in the 47th minute to make it 2-2. The match then went to a shootout, where Chile emerged winners.

In the shootout, Josefina Constanza Gutierrez, Isabel Leonor Messen, and Trinidad Antonia Barrios scored for Chile. Sonam was the only Indian player to convert her chance.

Earlier in the tournament, India had a 2-1 win over Chile on May 25 with goals from Sukhveer and Kanika. They also beat Uruguay 3-2 the next day, thanks to Kanika’s brace in the final quarter.

India’s previous match ended in a 1-1 draw against hosts Argentina. They went on to win the shootout 2-0.

India will face Uruguay again on Sunday in their final group match. The team has shown strong performances but needs consistency in shootouts to finish on top.
