The Indian junior women’s hockey team started the Four Nations Tournament with a 2-1 win over Chile in Rosario, Argentina, on Sunday. Sukhveer Kaur scored in the 39th minute and Kanika Siwach netted the winning goal in the 58th minute. Chile’s Javeria Saenz had given her team an early lead by scoring in the 20th minute.

Chile took the lead in the first half, but India quickly fought back in the third quarter through Sukhveer Kaur’s goal. The match was closely fought, but Kanika Siwach’s late goal sealed the victory for India. The team’s next match is against Uruguay on May 26.

Coach Tushar Khandker said the tournament is important as it prepares the team for the Junior World Cup later this year. “We want to find the best players for the World Cup and give them good experience,” he said. “We also want to see how much the team has improved from before.”

Khandker added that playing any international match means representing India, no matter who the opponent is. He said the team’s focus is on playing well, following strategies, and giving players chances to gain confidence and match experience.

This victory gives the Indian junior women a strong start in the tournament and builds hope for a good performance at the Junior World Cup later this year.
