India hosts 300 ‘Sundays on Cycle’ events
New Delhi
On Sunday, more than 300 cycling events took place across India as part of the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ campaign. These events, held in various cities and towns, brought together communities to promote fitness, fun, and environmental awareness.
In Delhi, the event began at New Moti Bagh, where Sujata Chaturvedi, Sports Secretary, flagged off the rally. Around 350 people from different Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) participated, cycling together for better health. The event aimed to encourage a healthy lifestyle and reduce obesity in urban areas.
Chaturvedi said Fit India is becoming a popular movement, and lakhs of people are now taking part. She mentioned that the recent Fit India carnival at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was even highlighted by the Prime Minister in his “Mann ki Baat” speech.
Well-known sportspersons also joined the celebrations. Wrestler Nitesh Siwach, who recently won a bronze medal at the 2025 Asian Championships, praised the initiative. Rohtash Choudhary, known as the ‘Push-Up Man of India,’ also took part.
Other events were held at SAI centers across India. In Imphal, Padma Shri awardee Kunjarani Devi inspired the crowd. In Tamil Nadu, athlete Suresh Kumar S. opened the event at the SAI Centre in Salem.
The campaign continues to grow as Indians unite to stay fit and build healthier, greener cities.
