In a major relief for Indian Kabaddi players, the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) is set to lift the suspension imposed on the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) next month.

The decision comes after a court-appointed administrator officially handed over the charge to the elected body of AKFI. IKF President Vinod Kumar Tiwari confirmed in an interview that the suspension will be lifted following an executive council meeting scheduled for next month. The IKF had imposed the ban on AKFI in July last year after the newly elected office bearers were not allowed to take charge. However, with the handover now completed, normal operations have resumed at the AKFI office in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi.

The AKFI office bearers, elected in December 2023, have taken charge, and they have started functioning from the AKFI office at JLN Stadium. So, the ban on AKFI will be lifted. We will have our executive board meeting (of the IKF) next month, and the ban will be officially lifted, Tiwari stated. The development follows a Supreme Court order issued on February 6, which directed Justice (Retd.) S P Garg, the court-appointed administrator of AKFI, to transfer control of the federation to the elected office bearers.
