Hamilton calls Ferrari move the 'most exciting period' of his life
Melbourne
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is entering a new chapter in his illustrious career as he gears up for his debut race with Scuderia Ferrari at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix this Sunday. Describing the moment as “the most exciting period of my life,” Hamilton will compete in the iconic Ferrari red for the first time in a competitive race.
After 11 years at Mercedes, Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari has shocked the F1 world. Reflecting on the change, Hamilton shared the surreal feeling of joining the red garage he had admired from afar for years. "For all those years, I’ve walked up and down the paddock, looking at the red garage, and now I’m actually in it… It’s a really nice feeling,” he said.
Hamilton's transition to Ferrari follows a winter of adjustments, learning new engineering philosophies and adapting to the Maranello team culture. Despite the challenges, he’s enjoying the experience, particularly the switch from Mercedes power to Ferrari’s engine.
With the weight of expectation on his shoulders, Hamilton is determined not to feel the external pressure. “The pressure I put on myself is ten times higher than any other pressure,” he said. Ferrari’s aim to return to championship contention is clear, with Hamilton’s arrival signaling their intent to fight for glory. However, he remains cautious, keeping expectations in check after a short pre-season.
