England picks 23 players for U-21 Euro Finals
London
England's head coach Lee Carsley has named the 23-man squad for the Under-21 European Championship Finals in Slovakia. England won the tournament two years ago in Georgia and hope to defend their title.
Two players from the 2023 winning team—defender Charlie Cresswell and forward Harvey Elliott—have been picked again. They played key roles in helping the team qualify for this year’s finals.
England will play their first match against Czechia on June 12 at Mol Arena. Their second game is against Slovenia on June 15. The final group game will be played against Germany on June 18 at Stadion Pod Zoborom. The top two teams from each group will move on to the quarter-finals.
Before finalizing the team, Carsley had called a larger training squad to St. George’s Park last week. After making his final decisions, the selected players returned to the training centre on Friday. The team will fly to Slovakia on Saturday (today).
The squad includes goalkeepers James Beadle, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, and Tommy Simkin. Defenders are Charlie Cresswell, Ronnie Edwards, CJ Egan-Riley, Tino Livramento, Brooke Norton Cuffy, and Jarell Quansah.
Midfielders selected are Elliot Anderson, Jobe Bellingham, Archie Gray, Hayden Hackney, Jack Hinshelwood, Tyler Morton, and Alex Scott.
Forwards include Harvey Elliott, Omari Hutchinson, Sam Iling Jr, James McAtee, Ethan Nwaneri, Jonathan Rowe, and Jay Stansfield.
Tom Fellows from West Bromwich Albion will travel as an extra training player. Coaches hope his presence will add support during training.
