Borussia Dortmund moved into the Club World Cup quarter-finals after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Monterrey. The German club will now face Real Madrid on July 5 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Dortmund started strong and took control early. In the 14th minute, Serhou Guirassy combined nicely with Karim Adeyemi, finishing calmly to give Dortmund a 1-0 lead. Just ten minutes later, Adeyemi set up Guirassy again after a fast counter-attack started by Julian Ryerson. Guirassy scored with a clean first-time shot, putting Dortmund 2-0 ahead at halftime.

Monterrey fought back quickly after the break. Three minutes into the second half, German Berterame scored with a header following a clever build-up from Jesus Corona and Erick Aguirre. Monterrey pushed hard for an equaliser, creating several chances. In the 60th minute, Corona broke through but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. In the 65th minute, Berterame thought he had scored again, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Guirassy missed chances for a hat-trick later in the game. He stumbled inside the box in the 75th minute and then missed another opportunity just a minute later. Monterrey nearly equalised in stoppage time when Sergio Ramos headed wide from close range.

Despite late pressure from Monterrey, Dortmund defended strongly to hold on to their lead. This win sets up an exciting quarter-final meeting with European champions Real Madrid, a match that promises high drama and top-class football. Fans now eagerly await this big clash in New Jersey.
