Novak Djokovic advanced to the semi-final of the French Open 2025 after defeating Alexander Zverev in four sets on late Wednesday night. The 38-year-old became the oldest man since 1968 to reach a French Open semi-final, according to ATP Tour records.
Djokovic lost the first set but bounced back with a smart game plan, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. He used clever tactics, including repeated drop shots, to adapt to windy conditions. “In the last game, I hit several drop shots. The wind made it feel like I had to hit twice as hard, so I had to change my style,” Djokovic said.
This win marks Djokovic’s 101st career victory at Roland Garros and his 51st Grand Slam semi-final appearance — both record achievements. He will now face top-seeded Jannik Sinner, who beat Alexander Bublik in straight sets.
The head-to-head record between Djokovic and Sinner is tied at 4-4. Sinner has won their last three encounters, but Djokovic won their only clay-court match in 2021.
Sinner’s semifinal appearance, along with Lorenzo Musetti’s, marks the first time two Italian men have reached the semis of the same Grand Slam in the Open Era.
“Zverev’s a great player. Matches like this remind me why I still compete,” Djokovic added.
Djokovic is aiming for his first major title since the 2023 US Open. With Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner winning the past five Grand Slams, Djokovic is pushing hard to reclaim dominance on the big stage.
