Djokovic breaks Nadal’s record for Masters 1000 wins
Miami
Novak Djokovic made history at the Miami Open, surpassing Rafael Nadal’s record for the most ATP Masters 1000 match wins. The Serbian tennis star clinched his 411th victory in the third round, defeating Argentina's Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-1, 6-0.
Before this match, Djokovic had 409 Masters 1000 wins, tying Nadal for the record. The 24-time Grand Slam champion set a new milestone, becoming the player with the most match wins in the ATP Masters 1000 series, which started in 1990. Djokovic had previously matched Nadal's record after his win against Rinki Hijikata in the first round of this tournament.
"Breaking another record is a great honor. Every match has something to fight for, and this motivates me to keep performing well," Djokovic said after the victory.
The 37-year-old’s first Masters 1000 win came almost two decades ago in 2005, and since then, he has accumulated a record 40 Masters 1000 titles. His first title in the series came in Miami in 2007, and in 2018, he became the first player to win all nine Masters 1000 events.
Now holding a 411-91 record at Masters 1000 events, Djokovic will face 23-year-old Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the round of 16, as he chases his seventh Miami Open title, aiming to break Andre Agassi's record.
Djokovic is also looking for his first Masters 1000 title since 2023 when he won in Paris.
