BFI selects 19 boxers for Thailand Open
New Delhi
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has chosen a 19-member squad for the 4th Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok, set for May 24 to June 1. The team includes 10 male and 9 female boxers, picked from the ongoing elite national camp at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala.
The selection was based on performance, with silver medallists from the 2025 Elite Nationals getting priority. The tournament will feature top boxing nations like China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Japan, Korea, and Thailand.
BFI interim president Ajay Singh called the Thailand Open a key event in a packed international season. He praised the team’s hard work and the transparency in the selection process. The squad will aim to perform well ahead of major tournaments like the World Cup in Kazakhstan and World Championship in Liverpool.
The Patiala camp had 60 men and 60 women, chosen from national events and talent hunts. The group was later trimmed to 40 each, with more additions expected in July.
