Aurionpro Grandmaster Chess Tournament kicks off

The Aurionpro Grandmaster Chess Tournament will begin on Monday (today), in Mumbai. It will run until June 24. This event will see over 400 players from 17 different countries taking part. It also includes a junior international section alongside the main event.

The total prize money for the tournament is Rs 40 lakh. Many strong players from around the world will compete for top honours. Among them is Grandmaster Levan Pantsulaia from Georgia, who has been given the top seed. Armenian Grandmaster Petrosyan Manuel is the second seed, while another Georgian Grandmaster, Luka Paichadze, is the third seed.

In the junior section, 12-year-old Indian FIDE Master Aansh Nerurkar is leading the country’s young chess talent. He will face tough competition from Madhesh Kumar of Pondicherry and Avirat Chauhan of Maharashtra. All three are considered strong contenders.

The junior category will also feature a special guest – Woman International Master Oshini Gunawardhana from Sri Lanka. At just 12 years old, she is already making a name for herself. Her presence has added excitement to the tournament.

The Aurionpro tournament is expected to showcase high-quality games and test the skills of young and experienced players alike. It is being seen as a great opportunity for Indian talent to shine on the international stage.

The event will be closely followed by chess fans and is expected to inspire young players across the country. Organisers say the tournament will help promote chess further among youth and give a platform for future champions to grow.
