Alcaraz withdraws from Canadian Open tournament

World number two Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the upcoming Canadian Open to recover from physical and mental fatigue. After a tough loss to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon final, the 22-year-old Spaniard shared that he needs time to rest and heal.
Alcaraz, who has won five titles this year including the French Open, said on social media, “After many weeks of non-stop competition, I have small muscle issues and need to recover. I’m sorry to miss Toronto this year, but I’ll be back.”
This marks a notable absence from the ATP Masters 1000 event in Toronto, which starts Sunday and now runs for 12 days. Alcaraz is not the only big name missing, Sinner and Novak Djokovic also withdrew earlier, along with Britain’s Jack Draper due to injury.
Sinner, last year’s Toronto winner, said his decision came after advice from his team. “I have to prioritise my health,” he said. The tournament final is scheduled for August 7.
