In a major step towards developing grassroots football, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has begun trials for the U14 boys’ national team in Hyderabad this week. The trials are a part of AIFF’s long-term talent development strategy, supported by FIFA.

Over the past 18 months, AIFF’s scouting department, assisted by FIFA Talent ID expert Richard Allen, identified 207 promising players. These youngsters were selected through performances in AIFF youth leagues, national championships, Subroto Cup, school games, and open trials across the country.

This progress is the result of a revamped scouting system and FIFA’s continued support under the Talent Development Scheme, said Allen. We’re proud to work with the AIFF to ensure every talented youngster gets a fair chance.

The 207 shortlisted players are now undergoing assessments by a panel of experienced coaches in Hyderabad. The final U14 squad will be selected from this pool and groomed for national and international competitions.

The restructured system has also spotlighted talent from under-represented regions like Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

AIFF Technical Director Syed Sabir Pasha emphasized, Our mission is clear — no talent should be overlooked. These players are the future of Indian football.

Apart from scouting, AIFF has hosted workshops for coaches, scouts, and PE teachers to strengthen grassroots talent identification.

AIFF deputy secretary general M Satyanarayan added, This dedicated scouting department was long overdue. Thanks to FIFA and Mr. Arsène Wenger, we’ve finally built a system that reaches every corner of India.
