Gifty Acheampong scored the only goal of the match in the 80th minute, leading Nita Football Academy to a 1-0 win against HOPS FC in their Indian Women’s League debut on Saturday.

The match, held at Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi, started slowly but gained pace in the second half. Acheampong’s goal came after she capitalized on a long ball, outpacing HOPS’ goalkeeper Priti Sarkar and captain Mamta to flick the ball into the net.

Nita Academy, who were playing their first IWL match, had earlier threatened the HOPS defense, with Acheampong’s powerful strike in the 35th minute being deflected by Priti. Kamala Devi from HOPS also had opportunities but couldn’t score, including a free-kick in the 44th minute that was saved.

HOPS, despite creating chances, including a long-range effort from Ghanaian Gladys Amfobea, were unable to break the deadlock. Nita’s goalkeeper Sasmita Parida was alert, saving a powerful shot from Gladys in the 57th minute.

After Acheampong’s goal, Nita looked to extend their lead, with Jabamani Tudu coming close in the 72nd minute, but the score remained 1-0. Nita’s win marks a successful start to their campaign, with a solid performance from their midfield and defense.
