India is set to participate in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025, sending a 49-member team to Turin, Italy, from March 8-15. The contingent consists of 30 athletes and 19 support staff, competing in six sports: Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Floorball, Short-track Speed Skating, Snowboarding, and Snowshoeing.
The Special Olympics World Winter Games is one of the largest sporting events for athletes with intellectual disabilities. This 12th edition will see participation from over 1,500 athletes and 621 coaches, with nearly 100,000 spectators expected from 102 countries. The event not only focuses on competition but also includes special programs like the Global Youth Leadership Summit, Healthy Athletes Screenings, and the Motor Activity Training Program, which provide additional support for athletes and their families.
India has a strong record in previous editions, winning a total of 167 medals—73 gold, 49 silver, and 45 bronze. The country’s participation highlights its commitment to promoting inclusivity and excellence through sports.
Dr. Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat, expressed confidence in the Indian athletes. “Their hard work and perseverance are truly inspiring. We believe they will make the nation proud in Turin.”
