'Sinners' tops box office; 'Accountant 2' follows close
This weekend’s box office is buzzing with excitement as 'Sinners' leads the race, projected to earn between $30 million and $40 million, boosted by strong reviews and word-of-mouth. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck’s 'The Accountant 2' is fighting for second place, aiming for around $23 to $25 million, while the re-released 'Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith' is also doing well after making $3.4 million during Thursday previews.
'The Accountant 2' — which reunites Ben Affleck with director Gavin O’Connor — is performing better than expected. It also boasts a 93% audience score and 76% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, showing major improvement from the original film. The movie even won the Audience Award at SXSW.
Meanwhile, 'Revenge of the Sith,' back in theaters for its 20th anniversary, is outpacing past Star Wars re-releases like 'The Phantom Menace' and 'Return of the Jedi,' and could become one of the franchise’s most successful re-releases.
'Sinners,' a vampire thriller starring Michael B. Jordan and directed by Ryan Coogler, continues to impress. After earning $6.1 million on Thursday alone, its total collection has already reached $77.5 million. With a $48 million opening over Easter weekend, critics and fans are calling it one of Coogler’s best works yet.
Other films like 'Minecraft: The Movie' and 'Until Dawn' are still playing, but early reports show 'Sinners' holding its strong lead.
