Housing, Minorities and Wakf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan has strongly denied allegations linking him to corruption in the allocation of houses meant for the poor. At a press conference on Tuesday, Khan stated firmly, “I am not a poor man who survives by taking money meant for underprivileged housing.”

He challenged critics, saying if it is proven that he took money for house allotments, he would resign immediately—without waiting for anyone to demand it. Taking money from the poor is inexcusable. If my involvement is proven, I will resign voluntarily,” he said.

Khan added that any such malpractice is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in his department. He announced an inquiry into the allegations raised by senior MLA B.R. Patil and promised strict action if anyone is found guilty. He also clarified that Patil had not named him or any specific official, but he would personally speak with Patil to address concerns.

Clarifying the procedure, Khan said that the Housing Department does not control the beneficiary selection process. “Allotments are based on recommendations by MLAs and executed at the gram panchayat level,” he explained, adding that even in Aland constituency, 950 houses were allotted based on Patil’s letter.

Responding to MLA Belur Gopalakrishna’s demand for his resignation, Khan said Belur lacked accurate information. He also noted that the Chief Minister has been briefed on the issue and a review meeting with officials has already taken place.

Khan maintained that if any wrongdoing surfaces within the panchayat system, swift action would follow.
