Y S Sharmila urges Amit Shah's resignation over remarks
Visakhapatnam
Andhra Pradesh Congress leader Y S Sharmila called for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday, accusing him of mocking Dr. B R Ambedkar during his Rajya Sabha speech. Sharmila claimed that Shah belittled Ambedkar by suggesting that chanting his name had become a trend, while BJP leaders laughed at the remark.
Shah insulted Ambedkar by calling it a fashion to chant his name, Sharmila said during a roundtable discussion in the port city. The event also saw participation from CPI, students, and other attendees.
Sharmila, highlighting Ambedkar's significant contributions as India’s first law minister, stated that the BJP would never understand his legacy. She emphasized that Congress is organizing the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Samvidhan’ campaign to honor Ambedkar's vision.
The Congress leader also criticized the BJP, labeling it a communal and casteist party involved in divisive politics. She further alleged that the BJP was handing over national assets to business magnate Gautam Adani, while compromising national institutions.
