WBSSC sets new deadline for segregated list submission

Amid ongoing protests by job seekers outside the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) office, demanding the publication of segregated lists of genuine and tainted candidates, the commission set a new deadline on Tuesday. However, the revised deadline is not for publishing the segregated lists but for submitting them to the state Education Department by April 30.

The commission plans to submit three separate lists to the Education Department: one for confirmed genuine candidates, another for the tainted ones, and a third for those whose Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets had technical errors. District inspectors of schools have been instructed to begin compiling these lists immediately.

The original deadline to release the segregated list was Monday, but the commission missed it, sparking protests from genuine candidates, who started a sit-in outside the WBSSC office, which continues.

State Education Minister Bratya Basu defended the commission's delay, explaining that the Supreme Court did not mandate the publication of the list. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also questioned why the job seekers were now demanding the segregation of candidates.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court upheld the Calcutta High Court’s decision to cancel WBSSC’s 2016 panel of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching jobs due to failure in properly segregating genuine candidates from those who allegedly secured jobs through corruption.
