Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the family of Sangili, a 45-year-old worker who died in a fire at a private explosives unit in Mettukundu village, Virudhunagar district. Sangili suffered severe burns and later died at Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital. Stalin expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the family, adding that the amount would come from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

The fire broke out Saturday afternoon, likely caused by mishandling volatile materials during production. Firefighters controlled the blaze quickly, preventing further harm. This tragedy highlights ongoing safety issues in Virudhunagar’s fireworks and explosives industry, known for frequent accidents.

An official investigation is underway, and district authorities have been ordered to check safety compliance in all nearby units. Worker groups are calling for stricter inspections and safer work conditions. Stalin assured that the government will act firmly against any negligence and remains committed to protecting laborers.
