V-P Dhankhar calls nationalism religion, condemns Pahalgam attack

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, addressing the nation following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, called it a challenge that requires a unified response under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He stressed that nationalism is the nation’s religion and urged the people to rise together, putting national interest first. Dhankhar also reflected on the importance of protecting constitutional values, expressing concerns over recent perceived judicial overreach.
Speaking at a book launch by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Dhankhar emphasized India’s progress under PM Modi, citing increased access to power, toilets, and healthcare, alongside improvements in education and infrastructure. He praised the Prime Minister’s leadership in turning challenges into opportunities.
Dhankhar also expressed deep concern about comments made regarding constitutional positions, particularly the roles of the President and Governors, underlining their supremacy in India’s constitutional framework. He highlighted the importance of coordination and respect among institutions to uphold the Constitution.
He also spoke about Uttar Pradesh’s rapid development under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and acknowledged the challenges ahead for India, urging that the country must confront them head-on. Referring to India’s past struggles during the Emergency, Dhankhar reminded everyone not to forget the lessons of history, emphasizing the importance of justice and democracy in addressing serious societal issues.
