US Vice President J.D. Vance praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership on Tuesday, highlighting his remarkable popularity, which he said would make most politicians envious. I told Prime Minister Modi last night—his approval ratings would make me jealous, Vance shared during his visit to Jaipur.

Vance commended Modi's strong negotiating skills, describing him as a tough negotiator who fiercely defends India's commercial interests. He emphasized the growing cooperation between the US and India, focusing on mutual benefit across various sectors. Vance also reaffirmed the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific, stressing the importance of the US-India partnership in shaping the 21st century.

Reflecting on Washington's evolving approach to New Delhi, Vance noted that past administrations had often treated India with condescension, seeing it as merely a source of cheap labor. He praised Modi’s tough stance on protecting Indian industries and questioned why previous American leaders didn’t do the same for their own workers.

On trade, Vance expressed optimism about ongoing talks, highlighting progress on a trade agreement. He also underscored the deepening US-India defense ties, including collaboration on advanced military technology and nuclear cooperation following India's amendments to its nuclear liability laws.

During his visit, Vance shared a lighthearted moment, noting his wife Usha’s celebrity status in India. He also admired India’s vibrant energy and ambitious vision, noting the unique blend of history and forward-thinking that defines the nation. Vance is in India on a four-day visit, after visiting New Delhi and Jaipur with his family.
