UP VC: No teaching of 'foreign invaders' history
Gonda
Maa Pateshwari State University in Balrampur will no longer include the history of foreign invaders in its curriculum, Vice-Chancellor Prof Ravishankar Singh announced on Friday. During his visit to Gonda, he said the university aims to focus on Indian culture, traditions, and heritage. We will not glorify those who harmed Indian culture. Instead, our students will study India’s rich history, Vedic knowledge, saints' traditions, and lesser-known stories of the freedom movement, he said.
Though he didn’t name any specific invaders, Prof Singh emphasized that the curriculum would center around Indian values. He was attending a principals’ meeting at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College when he shared these plans.
He also said the university will soon open a foreign languages department at its Shravasti campus. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is being planned with Nepal’s Tribhuvan University to support foreign students, particularly from Nepal.
The university is also preparing to sign another MoU with a central university in Varanasi.
In response to the growing tourism around the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Prof Singh announced the launch of new job-oriented courses in tourism and hospitality to meet rising demand in the region.
