The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to relocate families affected by the Banke Bihari Corridor project in Vrindavan to nearby areas Rukmini Vihar and Sunrakh Bangar, officials said. This move comes as the project, which will be built across 5.5 acres around the famous Thakur Banke Bihari Temple, is set to impact several local residents, including temple caretakers (sevayats), shopkeepers, and homeowners.

District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh stated that the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA) has identified land for relocating 275 affected families. These families will be provided flats as per their requirements. Around 200 shopkeepers, whose establishments fall within the project area, will be given new commercial spaces inside the corridor complex.

Homeowners will have the choice between relocating to Rukmini Vihar or Sunrakh Bangar. They will also receive compensation for their land and structures. MVDA Vice Chairman Shyam Bahadur Singh shared that four large plots have been designated in Rukmini Vihar for constructing 325 to 350 one- and two-bedroom flats. More land will be added if required.

A detailed survey is being conducted, and most affected sevayat families and traders have shown support for the project. Authorities are also reaching out to others to gain their agreement and ensure a smooth rehabilitation process.

The Banke Bihari Corridor is expected to improve infrastructure and enhance the experience for pilgrims visiting the historic temple, while the government assures fair relocation and compensation for all impacted people.
