The Uttar Pradesh government will deploy 40 electric buses to cater to the transportation needs of devotees attending the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, set to begin on January 13. Initially, 10 to 15 buses will begin operations in Prayagraj ahead of the festival. Another 30 buses will arrive from Lucknow before the Mauni Amavasya on January 29.

Ajit Kumar Singh, General Manager of Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation, said the buses, supplied by Switch Mobility, are 12 meters long and capable of traveling over 200 kilometers on a single charge. Routes for these buses have been finalized, covering both city and intercity routes, with charging facilities set up at four locations in Prayagraj.

MK Trivedi, Regional Manager of Prayagraj, stated that during peak days, buses will operate on six routes, expanding to 11 on normal days. The first phase of the initiative involves 40 buses, with a second phase adding 120 more, including 20 double-decker buses.

Given the expected large turnout, the district administration is enhancing safety measures, including deploying firefighting robots, all-terrain vehicles, and Quick Response Vehicles. The administration is also using technological tools for crowd management to ensure a smooth and safe experience for the millions of visitors. The key bathing rituals will occur on January 14, January 29, and February 3.
