The Kerala Assembly witnessed uproar on Tuesday as the Congress-led UDF opposition accused the government of ignoring ASHA workers' demands, while the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF claimed Kerala provided them the highest honorarium in the country. Amid protests by UDF MLAs, Speaker A.N. Shamseer quickly concluded Assembly proceedings by 11:05 AM.

The opposition disrupted discussions on key matters, including a resolution by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan against the Centre’s deep-sea mining plans. UDF MLAs, including Rahul Mamkootathil, sought an adjournment to discuss ASHA workers' concerns, but Health Minister Veena George opposed it, arguing that the government was already providing support. The Speaker denied the request.

As Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan delivered his speech, interruptions from the ruling front and a time limit warning from the Speaker led to UDF MLAs storming the well of the House. Holding placards and shouting slogans, they accused Shamseer of favoring the ruling party.

UDF members criticized the government for not fulfilling its 2021 manifesto promise of Rs 700 daily wages for ASHA workers, claiming they earn only around Rs 200. George countered, stating that Kerala workers receive Rs 10,000-13,500 monthly, with the state covering 60% of the cost. She also argued that ASHA workers today are better off than under the previous UDF government.

Satheesan urged the Kerala CM to engage with the ASHA workers, who have been protesting for 23 days, but his speech was cut short, sparking further protests from the opposition.
