Tripura to use Bhashini AI for regional languages

In a major move to enhance regional language usage and digital engagement, the Tripura government has teamed up with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to implement Bhashini, an AI-powered language translation tool. This initiative aims to break down language barriers, particularly in rural and tribal regions of the state, where many struggle to use systems in English or Hindi.

The agreement, signed with Chief Minister Manik Saha present, will integrate Bhashini into key state government services, such as the CM Helpline, Amar Sarkar app, and Kisan Sahayata App. The goal is to improve communication in multiple languages and streamline public service delivery.

By incorporating Bhashini into e-governance systems, the initiative hopes to bridge the digital divide, offering affordable translations and promoting inclusive governance. It can also be used in education for multilingual learning and law enforcement to translate FIRs and aid data entry in crime tracking systems.

Tripura becomes the first state in the northeastern region and the eighth nationwide to adopt this technology. The Ministry has also implemented Bhashini at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, offering real-time translations and multilingual support to attendees. This tool promises to enhance digital access in Tripura’s local and regional languages, making technology more accessible.
