Tourism in J&K recovering post-attack
Kolkata
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Thursday that tourism in the Union Territory is “bouncing back” following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead. Speaking at a travel and tourism event in Kolkata, Abdullah expressed hope and optimism about recovery and a fresh start for the region. “2025 has been a difficult year. It is divided into two parts — before and after the Pahalgam attack. But now, there is a clear message of hope. Tourism is reviving,” he said.
He praised the support of West Bengal, noting its historical bond with J&K in terms of trust and solidarity. “West Bengal has stood with J&K both politically and economically. We are focusing on adventure and destination tourism, and there’s a visible change on the ground,” Abdullah added. The Chief Minister assured that all necessary security measures are in place to ensure the safety of tourists. “I understand the concerns after the attack, but necessary steps have been taken. Please speak to those who recently returned from Pahalgam,” he urged.
Abdullah also mentioned that the Amarnath Yatra is underway and that there has been an increase in direct flights to the region. He confirmed that tourists are now allowed to visit Pahalgam again and that security audits are being conducted in specific areas. “I’m here in Kolkata to promote J&K as a safe and welcoming destination for all travellers,” he concluded.
