On this day in 2010, then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, now Prime Minister, took a visionary step to celebrate Gujarat’s 50 years of statehood. At the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, he sealed a Time Capsule, called Kaal Sanduk or Smriti Manjusha, meant to be opened 1,000 years later. This capsule tells the story of Gujarat’s journey since 1960, linking its rich past with the future.

Made of high-quality stainless steel and weighing 90 kilograms, the capsule is designed to last through the centuries. Inside, it holds important documents and artifacts, including Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, Ravishankar Maharaj’s speech inspiring Gujarat’s formation, and records of the state’s cultural and developmental milestones. The information is written in four languages: Gujarati, Hindi, English, and Sanskrit.

Yamal Vyas, Chairman of Gujarat’s 4th Finance Commission, said the capsule preserves the state’s history and growth in a special way. The texts were written on a unique plastic-blended paper to keep them readable for generations.

This Time Capsule is more than just a container—it is Gujarat’s legacy, carrying the spirit of its people and achievements into the distant future, showing pride, resilience, and hope.
